The Joint Commission

The treatment program at A Center for Eating Disorders addresses all facets of our beings that are affected by eating disorders: psychological, medical, nutritional and spiritual.

Psychological

We created a comfortable and healing environment for clients to face psychological issues with our well-trained therapists and staff, who together have more than 75 years combined experience treating eating disorders. In individual and group therapy, therapists and clients explore the development of their eating disorders; pinpoint experiences and emotions that contribute to it; and challenge the thoughts, beliefs and behaviors that inhibit a full and free life.

Medical

Eating disorders are one of few diagnosable mental illnesses that directly affect physical health. The medical complications are crucial and often life-threatening. Our medical team, including the medical director, registered nurses, psychiatrist and physical therapist, assures the physical safety of each client with regular observation and continued assessments.

Nutritional

The nutritional component of treatment at ACED addresses the emotional aspects related to food and provides fact-based education about health diet and exercies. Our registered dietitians have regular, individual sessions with clients to address issues regarding food and to construct a personalized meal plan. Our ultimate goal for each client is a healthy relationship with food. In that aim, regular programming includes food-related groups; restaurant and shopping outings; and mealtimes dedicated to nutritional healing and knowledge.

Spiritual

We use the term spirituality in the most inclusive sense, as the essence of a person rather than a belief system. We realize spirituality is inherent to the recovery process, and we weave it into our program while respecting the practices, beliefs and traditions of individual faiths. We hold spirituality groups, yoga classes and various exercises to help clients reach this essential part of themselves.
