Akasha Ellis
Yoga Instructor
<----back to biosAkasha has spent most of his adult life teaching others, first as a camp counselor then a successful international businessman, and today, as a yoga instructor.
Born in Florida, Akasha earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at George Washington University in Washington D.C. and attended graduate studies in Biochemistry and Histology at the University of New Mexico. He also studied at the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico.
Akasha worked in international business for more than 15 years, and during that time, launched and grew three successful companies. With each venture, Akasha strived to support and inspire others.
“I have always encouraged and given space for others to grow, excel and learn,” he says.
In the last decade, Akasha has taught thousands of hours of yoga. In 2008, he and other dedicated yogi’s founded the Birmingham Yoga Teach Training Program, where students can earn certification with Yoga Alliance. Akasha also manages a small business focused on the development and marketing of websites, but yoga is his heart.
“I truly believe in the healing power that yoga can offer, especially to someone who is open to bring balance and healing to their body, mind and spirit,” he says. “If the student has the compassion, patience and courage, they can heal. And yoga is a wonderful tool to help those on his/her warrior path.”
