Gayle Janzen, PhD

Consulting Psychologist

<----back to bios

Gayle holds a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama. She completed a Clinical Internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, where she developed an interest and began training in the treatment of eating disorders.

She has specialized in the field for 24 years now. She provided treatment and consultation to the Eating Disorders Unit at Brookwood Medical Center for eight years. For the last 16 years in the Riverchase area, Gayle has maintained a psychotherapy practice, which encompasses the treatment of eating disorders. She has a deep appreciation for the individuality of everyone she treats, and Gayle believes that each one can achieve full, complete recovery for life.

Gayle is former President of both the Birmingham Regional Association of Licensed Psychologists and the Alabama Psychological Association. She has served on the Council of Representatives of the American Psychological Association and the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology, including one year as the chairperson.

Gayle has twice received The Alabama Psychological Association’s Award for Outstanding Service and Commitment in the Promotion of Professional Psychology.

She was Chair of the Founding Board of the Alabama Nonprofit Eating Disorders Assistance (ALANEDA) Foundation, dedicated to prevention of eating disorders and the availability of holistic, affordable treatment for those struggling with the illness.

Gayle would love to spend each weekend on the islands of Kauai, Hawaii. When that’s not possible, she enjoys walks on the beach along the Gulf Shores or cuddling on the sofa with her kitties, a good book, and jazz playing in the background. For kicks, she likes to tap dance and enjoys live stage musical productions. Her single most favorite activity is belly-laughing with friends.
