Mary Ellen holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Education in Agency Counseling from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama. She graduated from both programs with honors.

Mary Ellen has treated clients in private practice for 11 years and was also on staff at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for 10 years. Certified in both EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Clinical Hypnotherapy, Mary Ellen has expertise in treating trauma (especially sexual trauma), grief, depression and anxiety.

She strives to help clients live in the moment, while helping to heal their pasts and plan for their futures.

“I believe healing is within each client, and I never give up on them,” Mary Ellen says. “I am extremely optimistic about my clients’ ability to heal … I’m flexible and believe there are many roads to reach a goal. If something isn’t working, I try another approach.”

Mary Ellen is an avid kayaker, and when possible, swims in the ocean or gulf surrounded by dolphins. She’s an animal advocate, rescuer of strays and a member of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society Auxiliary.

After letting her hair go gray, Mary Ellen got a purple, convertible Mini Cooper. “I needed something to reflect my inner attitude,” she says.
