Caroline West, MA, LPC, NBCC
Community Therapist
<----back to biosCaroline holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Caroline is certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors, and trained in EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing) and PBSP (Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor).
She has treated people struggling with eating disorders and trauma-related issues for 20 years in both private practice and at the UAB Women’s Center.
Caroline and fellow Program Therapist, Judith Harrington, started one of the first eating-disorder support groups in Birmingham almost 15 years ago. The group ran continuously for more than three years.
“My main role as a therapist is to help people find themselves and then stay connected to their true self,” Caroline says. “This connection with one’s self – and the acceptance of one’s self – drives a person toward life and away from the trap of an eating disorder.”
Caroline is incessantly creating, whether it’s putting together a jigsaw puzzle or conquering a project around the house. Either way, she’s usually joined by at least one “feline friend” and by her favorite person in the world: her husband.
